Learning To Listen: Part II

The Miracle

Albert Einstein said that “There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.”

I will paraphrase the great scientist and say: “There are two ways to live: you can live as if your body is not a miracle; you can live as if your body is a miracle.”

We live in a world created on a platform of disdain regarding the physical manifestation of who we are. The fashion industry has shown us for decades how far the disrespect for the human body can go by promoting as beautiful only malnourished and anorexic bodies.  The food industry has been treating the human body with great contempt by advertising and selling foods devoid of any nutritional value. The corporate world is adding to the general feeling of defeat by requiring longer and longer work hours to the detriment of the physical, mental and emotional health of the employees. The list can go on and on.

So far our world has been operating in the paradigm that our physicality is of no great importance or rather that it is only important from a consumerist perspective. Sure, we praise and admire healthy and athletic bodies, but more for their aesthetic quality and less as mirrors of healthy, balanced and conscious human beings.

The signals and messages we have been force fed over the last few decades left most of us completely disconnected from our bodies, so much so that we feel acutely powerless. We look outside ourselves for direction, advice and recipes for health. We have forgotten that there is an extraordinary wealth of knowledge embedded in our very own cells and we have lost our ability to listen.

What if each one of us now makes a conscious choice to live as if the physical body is a miracle?

First of all let’s acknowledge this wonderful physical expression of who we are. Let’s marvel at the physical bodies we inhabit and treat them with care and respect.  Feed them organic, locally grown, nutritious foods and drinks. Offer them good sleep and lots of downtime and play time. Exercise and train them with love and care.  Pay close attention to all their signals. Adjust the internal and external environments to match their needs.

In return, our bodies will be vibrant and healthy. Like perfectly attuned musical instruments, they will play beautiful, harmonious songs and our lives will be enhanced forever. Furthermore, like a great orchestra, humanity will create entire symphonies of higher collective consciousness.
